Last week I needed a simple, reader-focused skin for a MediaWiki install, and I figured WordPress’ TwentyTen theme would be suitable. So I ported it to MediaWiki.

The skin can be downloaded from Github, and I’ve also added it to the MediaWiki gallery of user styles.

Nice idea. Nice clean work. Lots of promise.
• How does one add items to the main right hand column though? Navigation does not show up in after the following simple installation. It would be cool to have “Categories” and other element appear there somewhat like WP’s widgets.
• Moving ToC to the right hand column would be cool too.
• Drop down menu items would be a nice addition. I had a play via Mediawiki but could not see how to do it. Paul Gu of Gumax (http://paulgu.com/wiki/Drop_Down_Menu_Series) managed that nicely. Might try crossbreeding from there.
• There was a WP hack that removed the header image for any non-home (main) page which saves a lot of room. I know Matt W loves them but those photos take up a lot of prime real estate where they are not needed.
Again, I think Paul Gu worked out how to have a specific header image for each topic page which might be cool, a sort of featured image.
• I changed the editing box to make it smaller so that one did not need to scroll down to save and made a lot smaller all the licensing talk.
• Special:AllPages, IMHO, looks a bit weird and, again, wastes a lot of prime real estate.
Keep up the good work.

This is cool. Can you give a link to the wiki that uses this if it is public?

@nonegiven: Sorry I haven’t been maintaining this very well! Add your ideas to the Github issue tracker, and I’ll see where I can get to. No promises, though! My need for this skin has passed…
@Kyle: I’m afraid not. I’ve toyed with setting up MW for my use, but have found Dokuwiki to be better (mainly because of it’s in-built ACL support).

Hi!
Will TwentyTen skin work with mediawiki 1.19 installed in a subdirectory?
Thanks!

I’m afraid it may not, not because of the subdirectory thing, but because it seems that there’s some error or other with 1.19. I am hoping to find time to look into it soon — if this is important to you, feel free to either fix it yourself and send me a pull request, or hassle me to stop being lazy. :-) Thanks!
