T113: domain names

The auDA is changing the rules about who’s allowed to have a .org.au
domain name, and forcing everyone to register an association if they want to keep their domain. I’ve had archives.org.au
for over a decade, and have used it for my email address for lots of that time. So I must admit to being a bit annoyed! If it wasn’t for the fact that I have one of these domain names, I’d probably be pretty supportive of the move — I like the idea that domain names are for different purposes (for example, I love the fact that Australians can have personal .id.au
domain names).
So, I’m going to register something called “ArchivesWiki Inc.” and see if I can keep the name!

Someone has grabbed an old domain that I used to host. I don’t really mind of course, I’ve not renewed it for ages, but there’s a slight feeling of having let a good thing go!
It was freo.org.au
, and when I was involved with the Fremantle Society we had an idea to set up a “civic wiki”. It never really went anywhere. I’ve still got the data though; I have thought about putting it online at https://freo.archives.org.au/
I found about it being online again thanks to UptimeRobot, who helpfully told me it’d been down for 8894 hours, 8 minutes and 59 seconds.
