The rain continues, even back in Perth. It's good coding weather.
I'm trying to upload photos from Yallingup, but predictably feel like fixing some of the metadata handling first, and so might not get anything uploaded today. I do like the new system though, and am looking forward to having a better way to copy select photos to Commons.

I can't believe I'm finally working on a functional photo album system for myself. I think I wanted this in about 2003, but everyone said you shouldn't build your own thing because it'll just be crappier than whatever existing open source application that already exists, and it'd be better to work on integrating the missing features into the mainstream tools.
But sod that. I don't think anyone else wants what I want, or if they do they're not so worried about silly little things (like storing photo times in UTC so they're properly ordered; as far as I can see, all photo album software just takes the Exif datetime and uses that). So I'm going to carry on building my own thing, and enjoying the satisfaction of making it just so.
Sorry Piwigo, and MediaWiki, and WordPressβ¦

I'm still importing Flickr photos. Nearly done! It's great watching the import coming in and seeing all the duplicates being found (and not imported twice). It's one of the most annoying things about Flickr, that they let you upload the exact file twice and provide no API access to determine if something already exists. I've attempted to hack something together with
checksum:sha1=blah
machine tags, but the tag search system has some great annoyances (mostly lag, I think) that makes this less than great. It'll be nice to not have to deal with any of that in the future. -
