Lookup up at the first floor in the front room of the Guildford Hotel. The old floor joists are visible. The ceiling at the top opens to the outside.

Straight rafters with curved tin.

The staircase here goes up to the tower from the first floor, but after the first landing thereβs a low beam obstructing passage. It appears not to have been added later, but perhaps the whole thing needed reinforcing and thereβs a steel beam in there. Unfortunately, the National Trust didnβt have any information displayed about why it was like this.
