I'm mostly an open content geek: recording all that can be in the digital memex (i.e the Wikimedia universe); mapping and walking in Fremantle (for OpenStreetMap); striving for a bit of simplicity; and now and then building bits of wooden furniture by hand.

I'm also on: Wikisource, Wikidata, OpenStreetMap, Stack Exchange, Reddit, ORCID, GitHub, WordPress, and MediaWiki.
Mapping

I've been contributing to OpenStreetMap since 29 April 2008; my username is Sam Wilson. I'm currently living somewhere on this map:
Categories

Exploring: I like to go for rambling, aimless walks, though bush or suburbs, and sometimes I post here the words and pictures (and GPS traces) that I collect on these walks.

Miscellaneous: Everything else. 'Apropos of nothing', as they say.

Open content: I edit on various Wikimedia projects and other wikis, and occasionally post here about whatever I'm working on. I am usually [[User:Samwilson]] on all projects.

Programming: I am a software engineer at the Wikimedia Foundation, and in that capacity and as a volunteer contribute to a few open source projects (MediaWiki, WordPress, Piwigo, ...). I write about these things here when I can, working things out, announcing updates, and musing on how things ought to be done.

Reading: 'Reading' in the broad sense, but usually to do with texts that are made of text.

Status updates: Tweets, dents, Facebook statuses... from wherever they come, this category is the final and complete archive of them all.

Woodworking: This blog began as a way for me to document my workshop practice when I was at the ANU school of art in Canberra. Now my life has moved away from working at the bench, but I still post about the small projects that I do get to work on, and the joy that I find in working wood by hand.
